5.6.2006 - Housingg Construction Booms Citywide

Triangle Development put on quite a shindig and a different kind of “groundbreaking” the other night- on the 34th floor of Chase Tower in downtown Oklahoma City. Yep, a “groundbreaking” at the Petroleum Club.

Would Anthony McDermid, Bert Belanger or other principals in Triangle’s cool urban housing project, Brownstones at Maywood Park, haul in dirt in a wheelbarrow, break out the ceremonial bronze shovels and hard-hats and mug for cameras?

Should’ve known better. They’re classier than that. The only cheese at the Thursday after-work get-together- which attracted a veritable who’s who of downtown real estate development-came in the form of munchable cubes on the buffet table. Down below, two bulldozers moved dirt around on one of the bare plots that will be transformed into Maywood Park-perfectly visible from the north windows of the Petroleum Club. We crowded to see the future get started.

Maywood Park will have some 125 upscale condos for sale at NE 3 and Oklahoma Avenue, among other kinds of residential and commercial development on 28 acres within what they call the Triangle, bordered by Broadway to the west, Main to the south and Interstate 235 to the east.

From the Petroleum Club, it’s easy to see how Maywood Park will connect to Deep Deuce Apartments, which connect to Bricktown, where pedestrians walking across Reno Avenue tie Bricktown to Lower Bricktown, which is easy walking distance from offices and hotels in downtown, which will anchor an unfolding array of commerce and as-yet-unimagined entertainment once Interstate 40 is moved south and things are torn down renovated and built.
